Review

The recipes and stories presented in this book all relate to the
author’s life and restaurant on the island of Corfu in Greece. For
three decades, Cristiani developed her own recipes. Presented under
sections titled starters, bread and pizza, fish, chicken, meat, and
desserts, the recipes in this book include the fabulous mussel soup,
chicken alla cacciatora, ossobuco, and apple fritters. Unfortunately,
everything about Gabriella’s Kitchen—small format, glossy paper
stock, italic font for ingredients, inaccessible layout—make it
difficult to use in the kitchen. The stories are a lovely addition but
make the book more appropriate for the coffee table than the kitchen.
Cooks would do well to transcribe the recipes for use in the kitchen.
