Review

Eric Nicol, three-time winner of the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour,
is a very funny writer, and The Casanova Sexicon is a very, very funny
book. This alphabetically arranged collection runs the gamut of the
seducer’s lexicon, from aphrodisiacs, beds, and conversation to
virtue, wine, and women. According to Eric Nicol, Casanova, the master
seducer of all ages, was a traveling salesman who carried his wares in
his pants; successfully resisted the urge to settle down and the
consequent need to settle up; had no parental worries, meeting his
children only socially; and lived a life free of mortgage payments,
having no fixed address. The Casanova Sexicon is a laugh-out-loud book;
reading a letter a day would seem a good strategy for keeping depression
at bay.
