Review

You had to be there. Or, you have to still live there.

If you’re not from Eastern Ontario and interested in hockey, pass on
this volume—a chronology of the “golden years” of hockey in
Pembroke and area, with nonsports historical tidbits (“dial phones
arrives,” “The Mary St. bridge was condemned”).

This is local history at its most tedious, a year-by-year account of
what happened in local hockey and local news. Numerous team photos from
the bygone era are included.

While the contents may be of some interest to those involved in these
hockey activities, or their descendants, there is limited appeal to
anyone else. It’s probably a good thing this book exists, for local
flavor and factual information, including team roster lists. But be
content to know that it exists, and don’t worry about reading it.
