Review

During the past decade, the author has published several books dealing
with marine disasters off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador in the
19th and 20th centuries. The books have had great popular appeal and the
public has responded in kind with additional information and stories.
This latest book provides a different variation on these stories,
offering information on the survivors of wrecks and their descendants.
Quite often, the immediacy of electronic communication has made it
possible for people to e-mail the author information; other information
was gathered through more traditional means such as written letters and
telephone calls. The result is another interesting collection of
human-interest stories. Each of the 27 stories is introduced with notes
and an introduction by the author to provide context and explanation.
Generously illustrated with photographs of newspaper accounts,
individuals, and ships, Raging Winds, Roaring Sea will be well received
by general readers.
