Review

Like Minds is a collection of eight short stories that are, by turns,
provocative, hilarious, shocking, poignant, and uplifting. Winner of the
1998 New Muse Award for fiction, this entertaining book illustrates the
many facets of women’s lives in our contemporary world. The stories
describe a wide range of experiences: among them are a romance between
obsessive-compulsives, the desperation within a lifeless marriage, the
freedom and joy discovered at the end of a relationship, encounters with
odd neighbors and salesmen, and the devastating effects of childhood
sexual abuse.

Strong characterization and authentic dialogue are consistent features
of the stories. Given its almost exclusive focus on the female
experience, Like Minds will likely appeal mostly to women readers. Their
reading pleasure will be marred by some jarring typographical errors.
