Review

This fascinating book consists of interviews with women who have shared
the same man. The interviews are paired, so that we hear from both the
man’s original partner (often a wife) and the “other” woman. Some
of the men are happily attached to the other woman, others have returned
to their original partners, and still others have left both interviewees
behind. The most arresting stories are found in a section titled
“Strange Bedfellows,” in which the author tells of how the women’s
support of each other ultimately overcame their mutual dislike and
enabled them to deal with infidelity in surprising ways.

By turns funny, tragic, and horrifying, these stories are a testament
to women’s strength and to Cato’s statement that real life is richer
and more complex than most fiction.
