Review

This book is packed with revelations about mothering, voluntary
childlessness, spirituality, economics, campus harassment, sexual abuse
and torture, personal safety, and much more. Its strength lies in the
variety of voices, from Kate Braid’s account of becoming a carpenter,
to Val Paape’s contemplation of mindfulness and meditation as a way of
living with (and healing from) breast cancer, to Patty Osborne’s
chronicle of her lifelong difficulties with body image. The writing
styles vary, but all of the pieces are highly readable and appear in
letter form. Bringing It Home shows the breadth and practicality of
feminism while at the same time celebrating the diversity of women’s
experiences.
