Review

Transformation in Canada’s Deep South examines the culture of Southern
and Southwestern Ontario and its evolution from a wasteful and
destructive society into a more sustainable, compassionate one. The
author begins by discussing agriculture and industry in the region,
chronicling their destructive effects. She then shows how small,
community-based market gardens and organic farms have led to more
sustainable practices, and also how both individuals and organizations
can contribute to this transformation. In the following two sections,
she explores restorative justice as an agent of social transformation
and looks at positive change in such areas as gender and race relations.
While the book suffers from poor organization and muddy writing, it may
appeal to those who are interested in issues relating to environmental
sustainability and personal growth.
