Review

Cranberries and Canada Geese is a sequel to the delightful Blueberries
and Polar Bears: Webber’s Northern Lodges—Our Most Requested Recipes
by the Lodges’ chief cook and her assistant. The cookbook features
recipes from the exotic—Venison Hot Shots, a dish with jalapeсo
peppers and venison dipped in “predator batter”—to new ways with
such old breakfast favorites as French toast. Other fare includes
“tame meats to make you wild,” deserts, jams, relishes, and sauces.
Rounding out the collection are little-known “goose facts,” jokes,
and notes from the authors that read like chatty letters from a favorite
aunt.

The recipes use familiar ingredients and are, for the most part,
straightforward and easy to follow. Measurements are given in both
imperial and metric units. Full-color photos illustrate some of the
dishes. Although no nutritional information is provided, many of the
dishes are suitable for special occasions when calorie or carbohydrate
counting is forgivably trumped by flavor.
