Review

While researching and writing his popular guide The Wineries of British
Columbia (1994), John Schreiner accumulated a substantial amount of
detailed background information about B.C. wines and the wine industry
that did not find a place in that guide’s winery-specific profiles.
Yet it was interesting information in itself, and contributed to a
broader understanding and appreciation of the vigorous young industry
and its products. This companion volume presents that information and
more in a convenient-to-consult A–Z encyclopedia format. Here you will
find biographies of current growers and winemakers and of the people who
developed the industry in earlier times.

There are updates on the wineries that appeared in the 1994 guide,
along with profiles of newcomers. General information about grape
varieties, wine-industry history, terminology and processes, labels,
competitions, and statistics round out the volume, which is illustrated
with black-and-white photographs of the personalities and labels. A
must-have for lovers of B.C. wine, and a valuable reference source on
B.C.’s wine industry.
