Review

The new catchword in diets and cooking is indulge, at least when it
comes to whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and lean meats. Monda
Rosenberg, food editor of Chatelaine magazine, and France Berkoff,
nutrition columnist for The Toronto Sun, incorporate this philosophy in
recipes rich in 20 fruits and vegetables they dub “nutritional
superstars.” Rich in Vitamin C, beta-carotene, and/or other
phytochemicals, they include apricots, berries, broccoli, Brussels
sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, greens, oranges, peppers,
potatoes, squash, and tomatoes.

A brief introduction, “Eat Your Way to Well-Being,” conveys sound
nutritional principles in readily accessible form. The recipe format is
attractive, with ink or felt-pen drawings of the ingredients and
effective layouts. The recipes themselves are for salads, main dishes,
desserts, elegant entertaining, and “Kid Pleasers.” The Vitality
Cookbook makes the road to a healthier diet practical and pleasant.
