Review

More Choice Menus is published in cooperation with the Canadian Diabetes
Association, and the information on sugar substitutes and how to cook
with them is particularly good. The book’s introduction expands on
Canada’s Food Guide, with the emphasis on moderation and balance.

To these basics, the authors add variety and taste. No one is likely to
find in these pages that what’s good for them is dull, not with
recipes like Ricotta Dijon Dip, Microwave Applesauce with Maple Oat
Topping, or Baked Vegetable Quiche. Every recipe is followed by an
“each serving” box giving a per-serving breakdown of carbohydrates,
protein, total fat, saturated fat, fibre, and sodium. The attractive
format includes coordinated menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and
snacks.

Marjorie Hollands and Margaret Howard are dietitians and food
consultants to government and industry. More Choice Menus is an
intelligent and scientific guide to meals that are both nutritious and
delicious.
