Review

This book introduces tourists to Newfoundland’s popular culture and to
those elements that make up the province’s personality—a sense of
friendliness, a sense of family, and a sense of fun. The author draws
upon local folklore and folk songs to explore this personality. He also
offers recommendations with respect to restaurants and places to stay.
His book describes towns and places of particular interest, and is
geared toward “individuals travelling in their own cars.”

As a general introduction to Newfoundland’s history, culture, and
major travel spots, No Strangers Here serves its purpose well. A list of
suggested readings would be a welcome addition in future editions.
