Review

The journeys chronicled in this engaging travel book are delightfully
random. At one moment we are traveling across the Pyrenees en route to
Burgos, birthplace of the Spanish hero El Cid. Next we find ourselves in
the Alfama district of Lisbon, spiritual home of the Fado (Portuguese
songs of the soul). We travel across the Alps and visit the Italian
lakes. We wander through the ruins of Pompeii and visit Rome, Florence,
Assisi, and the Isle of Capri. We meander down the Istrian coast of
Croatia, one of the most glorious coastlines in Europe.

In this informative, accessible, and gently humorous book, Gary Brannon
conveys genuine enthusiasm for the places he visits. I await his further
journeys with great anticipation.
