Review

Characterizing itself as “a book lover’s guide and miscellany,”
this intriguing little volume was compiled by a B.C. book lover for the
assistance and enjoyment of other bibliophiles. The “guide” portion
consists of a directory to more than 500 bookstores throughout British
Columbia, arranged alphabetically by location. Each entry includes
address, phone and fax numbers, and areas of specialization, if any.
Short literary quotations about books brighten every page. There are
also directory entries for some bookbinding and repair services,
publications about B.C. books, associations, writing and publishing
courses, book festivals and conferences. The “miscellany” portion
contains 13 personal essays about the book business and their
experiences with it contributed by booksellers and book lovers who
responded to the author’s information-gathering questionnaire. Book
lovers will find much to enjoy in this little guide, as they explore the
variety of bookshops available in communities throughout the province.
