Review

Rahul Varma, born in India and now living in Montreal, writes in both
Hindustani and English. He is the artistic director of the Teesri Duniya
Theatre Company, which staged the first production of Counter Offence in
1996.

The play dramatizes the process by which a case of spousal abuse
involving a police officer is transformed into a case of racism. All the
characters, including an anti-racist activist and a black social worker,
are convinced of the righteousness of their positions.

This thought-provoking and imaginative drama combines psychological
depth with theatrical flair.
