Review

This is a complete record of all the catalogued publications of Statistics Canada and its predecessor, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. It serves as an aid to researchers and librarians who need retrospective searching for statistical data sources. Technical papers, working papers, and memoranda are not included. The book was first issued as covering 1918-1960, and the current tool then supersedes this and the eleven catalogues of current publications from 1960 that have already been issued.

New material has, of course, been added, but there have been few mechanical changes. The subject classification, the title tracings, and the historical notes have all been maintained. New items include the addition of keywords to the index, abstracts for most of the entries (this is a real boon), and a mention of when the publications first began to be issued in French. Since we are dealing with historical materials here, almost everything is out of print. Microfiche copies can be obtained from Micromedia in Toronto, and, of course, the Statistics Canada Library and the larger academic and public libraries have extensive files of older materials.
