Review

This checklist covers the creative writers in the Atlantic provinces who worked in the forms of juvenile and adult poetry, fiction, and drama (but not nonfiction) and who were either born in the Atlantic Provinces or lived there long enough to have published while they were there. The area, of course, includes Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland. Each entry here begins with an inverted surname, the full forenames, and life dates, followed by brief “who’s who” type data based on what research has turned up (the compiler admits that there are holes, and he wants to see them plugged). At the end of the biographic data is a designation of primary work, such as “poet” or “short story writer.” All of this is followed by a listing of books that have been written (title and imprint only), followed by a listing of the various anthologies and magazines in which the writer has appeared. Considering that there are some 3,000 names here, this is a significant contribution to Canadian literature.
