Review

This tool is the third in a series; it continues Donald Page’s two-volume set (1945-1970 and 1971-1975). It covers material from the 1945-1980 period as published during 1976-1980. Books, articles, government documents, theses and unpublished materials (but the latter only if located at the CIIA, Department of External Affairs, Carleton University or the National Libraries) are cited — there are 2,956 numbered items here. Topics include policy and process of Canadian foreign relations, regional themes, subject themes (e.g., developing countries, international law, energy, environment, defence, foreign relations, trade). Region takes precedence over subject for placement of the citation, but it is all immaterial since the subject index — which should be a first place to look anyway — pulls it all together. In all, 145 periodicals were scanned, as well as ten indexes and bibliographies. This is a very useful tool for any researcher in this field.
