Review

The author’s drolly stated purpose of this book is to provide urban
people in Canada with basic facts about farming. It is really an effort
at humor that will be most appreciated and understood by those already
knowledgeable about farming. Some comments are sufficiently
tongue-in-cheek that the humor may be lost on those unfamiliar with farm
activities. For some reason, the author has thought it necessary to
include a guide to the pronunciation of the terms for each entry. The
topics are arranged alphabetically and cross-referenced to other entries
in what the author has called a “countrified dictionary, a
mini-encyclopedia of farm facts.” Some of the material originally
appeared in rural papers and on CBC Radio.
