Review

Freelance editor and author William Pasnak has produced a bewitching tale which takes young readers into the land of Estria. The Edmonton-born writer, who studied at the University of Alberta and spent two years in Japan, now lives in Banff.

The story is told from the viewpoint of Elena, a young entertainer who, with her partner, Ariel, travels the country putting on shows of music, dance, and juggling for commoners and nobility alike.

She discovers that Ariel is actually a member of a secret brotherhood, members of which have become concerned about the fate of the King of Estria. Her world becomes full of intrigue and danger as members of the brotherhood vie with the Kings enemies to restore the throne to its proper stature.

Supernatural forces are also at play in this war between good and evil in an exotic foreign land. Mr. Pasnak has created colourful characters living in an imaginary world that is sure to delight young readers.
