Review

The Frost in question has nothing to do with winter weather. He is Detective-Inspector Jack Frost of the Denton police, one of the most convincingly eccentric characters to appear in recent detective fiction. His personality lights and warms a memorable mystery set in the English countryside. A child has vanished on her way home from Sunday school, and the investigation surrounding this chilling event stirs up the evidence of a crime long hidden and all but forgotten; destroys a reputation and a marriage; shows a prickly new Detective Constable the way things are done by pros; and above all showcases the marvellously scruffy, intuitive, and endearing Jack Frost. A wonderful detective entertainment that leaves the reader longing for more of the same.
