Review

The unique richness and flavour of Ukrainian cookery is legendary for its particular appeal to the eye as well as to the appetite: the decorative breads and painted eggs that symbolize and celebrate religious and seasonal events are as beautiful as they are delicious. In this attractive cookbook, produced by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, Daughters of Ukraine Branch, Regina, are collected many of the favourite foods that grace the traditional Ukrainian table. Brief explanatory notes introduce those sections dealing with Christmas Eve Supper and Easter. Well laid out in boldly readable type, the recipes are expressed in imperial measurements only, although a metric conversion table is supplied. Completely indexed, and ring-bound for easy kitchen use, the book is graced with several tempting examples of perfectly luscious food photography.
