Review

There is a cookbook for every season and reason. This one is for microwave owners.

The author, Ruby Schile Juss, is a registered nurse who has been teaching cooking classes for the past five years. She became interested in microwave cooking, as most busy people do, when she discovered its time-saving qualities. After experimenting with re-adapting favourite recipes to the microwave method, Ruby slowly developed a new career in microwave cooking demonstrations and instruction.

This is the first in a series of Juss Microwaving publications. In addition to the recipes, which cover everything from appetizers to main dishes to desserts, the book contains numerous little hints (e.g., how to make croutons in the microwave, how to dry herbs, how to soften butter).

The overall book is lacking in creativity. The blasé photographs don’t present the food very favourably, and the black-and-red color scheme is a little boring. The book is sensibly spiralbound, making it easy to use.
