Review

William Hamilton was the Winthrop Pickard Bell Visiting Chain in Maritime Studies at Mount Allison University during 1983-1984. One of his functions was to deliver an annual lecture, and this book is the printing of said lecture (originally given on April 11, 1984). He argues strongly for the existence of a Maritime identity, basing this contention chiefly on cultural grounds. A knowledge of their own cultural milieu should be important in any quest for self-knowledge on the part of young Maritimers.
