Review

It is as much the journey as the destination that makes for a truly
special vacation. In Backroading Vancouver Island, Neering provides
readers with detailed directions to 18 off-the-beaten-path automobile
tours of Vancouver Island. Visitors and islanders alike can learn much
about the history of the Island by following the routes laid out in this
book.

Each section of the guide offers sensible information on vehicle safety
and road conditions, describes colorful locals and their businesses, and
includes trip maps. Neering’s kilometre-by-kilometre scenic
descriptions will ensure that travelers using the guide will not get
lost following her lead (but then again, maybe getting lost is how we
find more about ourselves and our heritage). Recommended.
