Review

The Douglas the Elephant series is aimed at the 3- to 8-year-old reader. Children in this age group will be quick to pick up the morals while at the same time will be entertained by the lively dialogue and lavish illustrations.

Author and illustrator Mark Thurman travels to schools to talk with teachers and children. He lives in Toronto and enjoys tennis, playing guitar, painting, drawing and observing nature.

In the Lie That Grew and Grew Douglas discovers a real friend while learning the folly of telling a lie. A hippo, ostrich, alligator, and monkey join in the story.

In The Birthday Party, Douglas invites 23 friends to his birthday party, with high expectations of the presents he will receive. His disappointment in not receiving the desired toy is predictable.
