Review

If your reader is old enough to point, then he or she is old enough to enjoy Our House. One of the “Books about Us” series, this picture book caters to the child building his vocabulary or developing creative writing skills.

The work was originally published in Spain, under the title Mirem la casa. More sophisticated readers will be able to pick out the household fixtures, furnishings, and street signs that indicate European origins.

The family of five are shown in the kitchen preparing breakfast, eating in the living/dining room, playing and doing housework in the bedrooms, and bathing in the bathroom and preparing for bed. The front and back covers show the apartment building and street.

Each scene is colorfully busy and cluttered, making the reader’s eyes dance over the page. Every time a picture is studied the reader will pick out something new. Thick cardboard pages allow even the youngest reader to handle the book on his own.
