Review

Children of all ages will love this delightful book. Sharon, Lois, and Bram have had wide television exposure, so many of the songs here will already be familiar. This collection of well-known and lesser-known verses is cleverly arranged to achieve a logical progression of thought and time. There are tickling rhymes, skipping rhymes, nonsense rhymes, lullabies, and much more. Adults will remember many of them from their own childhood and perhaps be pleasantly surprised by other, more contemporary pieces. Musical scores accompany the majority of the songs, and some have instructions for the appropriate actions. I was interested to learn that there are five verses to “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” The book is charmingly illustrated. A must for all nurseries and day-care centres — and what a gift idea for new parents!
