Review
This novel, which begins in 1893, tells a love story that blossomed out of the Colorado gold fields.
Samantha Harte has written two earlier novels, Angel and Hurricane Sweep. Kiss of Gold exhibits her ability to write an engrossing piece of historical fiction.
The unlikely heroine is a young, properly-brought-up English girl who follows her father to America to bring him home. Her determination is matched only by her innocence. She eventually falls in love with a man who rescues her from difficult situations. Cripple Creek is her ultimate destination, and by the time she finds her father she has no funds to return them to England. She becomes a party to his hunt for gold in the Colorado wilderness.
The author has added the town life for action and intrigue. Only toward the end does the love story become the dominant theme.
