Review

Night Studies is set in a downtown Toronto community college where the amazing variety in the aims and accomplishments of the students is matched by the diversity of character and attitudes of the staff. A bittersweet romance springs up between two English teachers previously wounded in love: the longsuffering, kind, but weary husband of a seriously disturbed woman and the irreverently wise-cracking, vulnerable ex-wife of a homosexual who left her to live with their “best friend.” Full of warmth, compassion, and humour that ranges from irony and wit to farce, Night Studies is a thoroughly entertaining and undemanding light novel.
