Review

Golfing is an engaging and occasionally frustrating pastime with its own peculiar vocabulary. In this slender volume, the reader is provided with a dictionary of golfing terms, each defined in the author’s inimitable style. Included are definitions for well-known golfing complaints, such as the yips, which the author defines as “an uncontrollable nervous reflex mainly affecting the wrists while putting”; left-handed golfers are described in a somewhat briefer fashion as “a nuisance on the course.” The book also includes a number of excellent illustrations. Regrettably, the text itself is somewhat uneven and, despite some occasionally funny moments, the humour is not consistently maintained throughout the work.

The author is an avid golfer currently residing in Australia.
