Review

Designed for the layperson, this comprehensive first-aid manual includes
sections on basic anatomy and an overview of common emergency medical
situations. The chapters, which are color-coded for easy access and
supported by photographs, detail in jargon-free language the major
categories of first-aid emergencies.

Those who find themselves in an emergency situation may find some of
the information difficult to access in a hurry. For example, treatment
for convulsions appears in the chapter “Disorders of Consciousness,”
which may not be the first place the layperson would look. There is a
paucity of information about psychiatric emergencies; only
“hysteria,” a rather dubious category, is covered.

Caveats aside, this is an excellent resource for its intended audience.
