Review

This book was originally published in 1957 under the title Milestones in Ogopogo Land. Chess Lyons was then a B.C. civil servant whose hobby was writing. A great deal of research was put into the original, and this updated edition contains historical material from the original book. The book has been reprinted at least twelve times, which is proof of its popularity and interest.

This is actually a traveller’s guide to the Okanagan Valley — well researched and very detailed. For those who know the Valley, the places and people mentioned will be familiar and full of interest. It would be a handy and interesting guide for travellers to carry along as they explore the

beautiful Okanagan Valley. Perhaps travellers will be intrigued by some unknown facts about the history of the area and the colorful characters who made the history and inspired the legends. Certainly the book will be useful in calculating distances between places of interest and in finding accommodation, whether motel, hotel, or campsites. The descriptions of so many little-known, historic, and/or scenic places invite one to slow down and stop on detour from the main route so as not to miss anything. The Okanagan and its lakes, rivers, mountains, people, and places invite you via this guidebook to come see for yourself.
