Review

At a time of rapid technological change and continuing debate concerning the direction of air transport policy, Airline Cost and Performance provides a methodology both for “assessing the performance of the airline industry in Canada” and for “examining multiproduct forms and the distinguishing characteristics of their costs.” The culmination of years of study, including data on the Canadian airline industry from 1964 through the 1980s, Airline Cost also incorporates recent contributions on cost analysis and productivity by Tretheway and colleagues in the U.S. Technical details are provided by an appendix and footnotes. A useful study for economists, government officials, airline managers and students of transportation.
