Review

This well-organized book is an excellent example of the application of a
social-cognitive approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle. While a
central focus is on reaching and maintaining the best weight for one’s
constitution, the authors also discuss the three Es for healthy living
(“Eating, Exercise, and Ease”) and cognitive-behavioral techniques,
ranging from setting goals and motivating oneself, to structuring the
environment and imaging. Such challenges as gaining a healthy control of
eating, committing to an exercise program, and coping with inevitable
stresses and setbacks are addressed in a lively and entertaining manner
(cartoons add humor and interest). The book is replete with charts,
diagrams, questionnaires, and action plans. Recommended for anyone who
would like a knowledgeable and motivating guide to a healthier life.
