Review

Not many legal texts are as fluently written as Divorce Law for Counsellors, which could also be a handy guide for laypeople. The new federal divorce law, in effect since June 1, 1986, is explained in three sections: The Basics of Divorce, The Divorce Process, and After The Divorce. Each section opens with a succinct description of the law, followed by questions and answers covering most contingencies in typical cases. The anonymous author warns frequently that Divorce Law for Counsellors is not intended to substitute for a lawyer’s advice. However, lawyers do charge by the hour, and the client who reads this book before consulting a lawyer is likely to save a lot of expensive time, through beginning the divorce process with a good understanding of the basics.
