Review

This very basic, no-nonsense book about diabetes uses a question/answer
format to discuss such issues as causes, treatment, and effects on
people’s lives. The author, a journalist, demonstrates a good
understanding of the subject and uses language that is neither too
simple nor to complex. Her book is well referenced and includes a list
of relevant Canadian organizations, a glossary, and a decent index.

My only complaint is that, in the “Down the Diabetes Road” section,
dementia is not more thoroughly covered; diabetes is a significant risk
factor for non-Alzheimer’s dementia, especially as people age.
However, this is a minor quibble about a book that would be an excellent
resource for anyone living with diabetes.
