Review

Based on a review of the literature from the 1940s to 1993, Health Care
provides an analysis of the organization of health-care delivery in
Canada. The book’s four authors provide documentation on policy
development and service provision, and on the roles of various levels of
government and nongovernmental organizations during the period under
review. The influence of hospitals on community care is also addressed.
One of the trends identified is the movement from a community-oriented
care that is driven by professionals, politicians, and bureaucrats to
one that is driven by the community. Restructuring and the effects of
globalization on Canadian health care are also discussed. This book will
be of interest to a wide range of undergraduate and graduate students,
and to a general audience as well.
