Review
Although 225,000 Atlantic Canadians may have seen them, UFO investigator
Don Ledger found only 300 reported cases of UFO sightings. He does not
take a position on these cases, except to comment on the credibility of
witnesses.
Following a general discussion of UFOs, Ledger presents the reader with
a relentless parade of information. None of the UFO sightings has a
follow-up. Even the most notable, the Shag Harbour Incident, comes to a
dead end. In that case, the RCMP, a Coast Guard Cutter (CG 101), and two
boats of the Coast Guard Marine Rescue Auxiliary were involved in a
search for an apparently downed airliner. When it became clear that
whatever entered the water was not an airplane (none was reported
missing), the Navy’s Fleet Diving Unit, augmented by RCMP divers,
continued the underwater search for seven days but found nothing.
The book includes a map of Atlantic Canada. Because it does not
indicate locations of the 300 sighting, the reader has no way of
establishing whether or not there are patterns (e.g., concentration
around air and military bases, transmitters, and electricity
transmission junctions). Finally, the bibliography is limited to those
titles Ledger considers acceptable.
