Review

The title of this most attractive collection of Indian recipes is a little misleading, for it includes, in addition to its tempting array of spicy dishes, a full roster of milder treats. There should be something here for every taste — soups, drinks, chutneys and raitas; hors d’oeuvres and teatime specials; rice and chapatis; vegetable, bean and lentil curries; fish, poultry and meat entrees; and sweets and desserts. Sample menus for guest occasions or a buffet dinner, and a glossary of possibly unfamiliar terms and ingredients, are included, along with a full index.

This is a most attractive volume, ring-bound for convenient kitchen use. Furthermore, it has several full-page color photographs, with explanatory notes identifying each dish displayed.
