Review

Very few individuals have attained such notable achievements in Canadian public life as the subject of this biography. In this study, the author traces the various stages in the life of Jeanne Sauvé from her birth in 1922 in the small village of Prud’homme, Saskatchewan to the present in her role as the Governor General of Canada.

This is a remarkable story about a remarkable Canadian. Well written and readable, it succeeds in providing a comprehensive overview of her varied career and accomplishments as a broadcaster, politician, cabinet minister, and the first female Speaker of the House of Commons. In the process, the reader is provided with a series of brief and revealing glimpses behind the scenes into the personality and personal life of Jeanne Sauvé.
