Review

This inspiring book is the result of the cooperation of people who value
and support the efforts of variously challenged individuals to tell
their stories of accomplishment. Through photographs and text, eight
storytellers relate the struggles and the triumphs of their journey
toward a productive, independent lifestyle.

The words of the learner–contributors give voice to people who are
rarely heard. What they say is candid and sincere, and reinforces the
notion that literacy programs for all learners are important. These
storytellers have thrived in a supportive, nurturing environment and
have produced compelling evidence of the benefits of inclusion. The
beautiful black-and-white photographs that accompany the text say as
much about the storytellers as their words do.
