Review

The seven-step program advocated in this book shows women how to
diagnose and track their progress through the stages of menopause, using
a battery of medical tests to do so. Further tests are recommended to
ascertain whether the menopausal woman is at risk of osteoporosis or
cardiovascular disease. Regimens of herbs, diet, and exercise are
outlined both for relief of short-term symptoms and for long-term health
benefits.

While the book’s objectives are laudable, its rigorous chart-oriented
approach is likely to intimidate the average menopausal woman. Following
the author’s recommendations would probably be a full-time (and
depressing) occupation, one that would appeal only to the desperate. For
the nondesperate, more accessible books on the subject are available.
