Review
Mary Peate served as the host of the popular CBC radio program Tea &
Trumpets in the late 1950s and early 1960s, a period when suburban
housewives were the norm. Peate managed to juggle a hectic schedule of
family life and studio work. She presented her listeners with personal
anecdotes and incisive commentaries on everyday life at home, as well as
on politics and world events. Written and delivered with a wry sense of
humor, her commentaries shared airtime with music chosen from her vast
record collection.
This book is at once a valuable record of Peate’s contributions and
an entertaining portrait of the early days of CBC radio and television.
