Review
This photoessay of Newfoundland and Labrador is fascinating. It takes a
special eye to find an exciting composition hidden in nature’s
clutter, and Minty’s outstanding talent is his unerring eye for just
the right light and composition. Each of his richly colored photographs
stands as a lesson in seeing and an example of composition. In some
cases, Minty has even darkened photographs, giving them an overall
sombre effect.
The brief text, which centres on human’s relationship to nature, is
at times preachy, but this doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the
photographs. The book’s only other flaw is that its format isn’t
larger, so that the reader could better absorb the intricate textures of
each shot.
