Review

This First Flight Level 1 reader comprises three stories about fun and
friendship. The first story, “Fox and Rabbit,” introduces the
book’s two characters—usually regarded as enemies, here they are
friends. The text is simple and repetitive so even the youngest child
will want to read along.

The second story, “Peas and Carrots,” is truly delightful. Rabbit
invites Fox to dinner. Fox wants to eat rabbit for dinner, but Rabbit is
cooking only peas, carrots, and mashed potatoes. In the end they both
get what they want: Rabbit enjoys his vegetables, and Fox is served a
portion of mashed potatoes in the shape of a rabbit with peas for eyes
and carrots for ears.

“The Sled” is about the fun the two friends have building and
playing with a sled. The vocabulary is slightly harder and the sentences
slightly longer, befitting the story’s position as third in the book.
All the stories are accompanied by charming illustrations. Highly
recommended.
