Review

This collection of bedtime stories is soothing and relaxing as well as
fun to listen to and read. The author takes everyday situations and
gives them an imaginative twist.

In “Snow Bear,” Annie makes a cave from her bedclothes and when she
crawls into it, she meets Mama Bear. The animal tells her about building
a snow bear as “big as a blizzard,” about wintry storms and fluffy
dreams. When Annie wakes the next morning, she’s happy to know that
she did not hibernate all winter.

In “Chilliwack,” Robbie puts a quarter in the supermarket horses
and rides off to Chilliwack to visit his friend Jennie. He has to use
his last quarter to keep the horse moving and has no way to get home.
Fortunately, his parents arrive in the supermarket spaceship, and
Jennie’s family is happy to see everyone. At the end of the visit,
Robbie gets into the spaceship with Mom, and Dad rides the horse back
home.

Equally delightful poems are scattered among the stories. The verses
set a happy mood, asking readers to think of good things about
themselves. Further rhymes tell of a dream dance, sleep, and a gentler
version of “Rock-a-Bye Baby.”

The illustrations, done in definite, clear colors with unusual detail,
show imaginative character touches. Young children will look forward to
their bedtime story when it is read from this attractive book.
