Picture Perfect Nova Scotia

This light, colorful guide should prove useful to anyone planning to
tour Nova Scotia by car.

The booklet divides the province into six “packages”—the South
Shore, Halifax and Dartmouth, the Annapolis Valley, the central and
northern mainland area, the Eastern Shore, and Cape Breton. For each,
there are clear directions on how to reach the major landmarks, museums,
and tourist attractions, as well as a lively commentary on the area’s
general characteristics, features, history, and claims to fame.

These six driving routes are sandwiched between an introductory chapter
on the history of the province and a final chapter on Sable Island, the
legendary “graveyard of the Atlantic.” Both chapters take the
once-over-lightly approach—about as much history as you’d want to
have read to you while you’re trying to find your next highway
junction.

The booklet is packed with large, vivid, full-color photos of the
scenery and landmarks encountered on the six drives. This feature makes
what is basically an extended promotional brochure into a
“keeper”—a travel guide that doubles as a souvenir.
