Review

This attractive introduction to spiders features a fun-to-read text, an
excellent layout, and fine color photography.

Children who have seen spiders in their homes or gardens will be
intrigued by such details as the fact that baby spiders, or
“spiderlings,” are carried piggyback for 10 days and then leave by
“ballooning” on a thread of silk after climbing to a high spot. A
handful of technical and scientific words are listed at the back under
“Words to Know.” Line drawings of spiders in different positions or
engaged in different activities decorate every page, along with large
photographic close-ups. Recommended.
